Thriver, Are You Ready to Boogie to Better Health?

"On the ninth day...my true love gave to me nine ladies dancing..."

Our bodies were made to move. With iTHRIVE, we aim to optimize fitness and reduce inactivity. The goal is to move for at least 30 minutes daily and avoid being inactive for more than 90 minutes at a time. You can do this by lumbering along on a treadmill or pedaling away on a bike. But, why not give dancing a try?

Many studies have found that dancing can help you improve balance, boost memory, lose weight, stay flexible, reduce stress, make friends, and more. The health benefits of jazz, ballroom, tango and folk dance (in addition to other types) have been studied. Results have shown that dancing boosts overall happiness and can reduce depression, anxiety, and stress. According to research, gettin’ your groove on can boost self-esteem, body image and coping ability. Here’s an added bonus: the health benefits of dance can last over time.

Need another reason, or two or three, to add dance to your movement repertoire? Anyone can do it and the start-up costs are minimal! There are many different types of dance so you are bound to find a style that suits you. Dance can be fast or slow, difficult or easy. You can dance to ANY type of music or sound including silence. And you can dance with a partner, a group, or solo. As for getting started, you really only need your fav tunes—shoes are not necessarily required. If you would you like a little instruction to get you going, YouTube is a free resource where you can find instructors to follow.

So Thriver, are you ready to boogie to better health? We sure are! And, we can’t wait to see you on the dance floor.
